The GoDown has provided consistent support to the development of classical music in Kenya, and the exploration of how to infuse it with local culture and music.  

In addition to hosting a physical training space for the Kenya Conservatoire of Music, we have them to support the ‘National Youth Orchestra’, an annual residency for classical music enthusiasts to interact in workshops. This residency culminated in concerts held around the country.  

The GoDown has also supported talented students in Korogocho to hone their skills in playing the various classical music instruments through the ‘Ghetto Classics’. 

The year-long programme involves a 12-week semester after which the students take a professional exam. The group of initially 10 students was trained by instructors from the Conservatoire.
