The GoDown Arts Centre is proud to announce that we are one of three winners of the Healthy Cities Challenge! Our winning proposal is a tactical urbanism project along Dunga Road in Nairobi.  

This project builds on the outputs of The GoDown’s HerCity HerStreets Initiative, which mobilised community and formed a Primary Stakeholder Group composed of women and girls in Street Assessments, Visioning & Ideation and Design Development workshops. The tactical urbanism project will validate the vision created by the community to transform Dunga and Dundori Roads into safer and more inclusive public spaces.  

Our winning proposal is part of the wider award-winning GoDown Transformation Project to scale up the arts centre and regenerate the neighbourhood. The Nairobi City County has signed an MoU formalising The GoDown Transformation as a Flagship Project in its County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) for 2023-2027. 

The tactical urbanism activities will engage community in introducing temporary interventions along Dunga road, to pilot the use of the street as a shared resource for cultural, social and commercial activities. They will work with artists to create a vibrant street experience in which active mobility and safety will be enhanced.
