Born in Nairobi in 1972, Michael Soi studied fine art and art history before joining Kuona Trust in 1995 where he began his career.
In his long and illustrious career, the artist is renowned for his commentary on social and political issues that concern Kenyans on a day-to-day basis. He has a reputation for interrogating hypocrisy, corruption, and subjects that people would rather not talk about publicly.
Based in his studio at The GoDown Arts Centre, Soi has participated in numerous artist residencies in South Africa, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, The United States and has had exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, Uganda, The United States, Switzerland, Denmark, and France.
