On 27 August 2026, The GoDown, through the Sanara Programme, joined Nairobi’s Culture, Arts and Tourism sector for a workshop examining how county priorities move from plans into budgets, implementation and measurable results.

The workshop explored how the CIDP and Annual Development Plan (ADP) guide county priorities, and how these priorities must translate into programmes, outputs, outcomes, indicators and budgets. A key takeaway was that priorities not reflected in approved planning documents face a much harder path to funding.

The session also highlighted the importance of sector working groups, public participation, evidence and data, costing, monitoring and evaluation, and the County Budget and Economic Forum in shaping the planning and budgeting process.

It also challenged the sector to look beyond counting events, trainings or programmes and demonstrate the tangible changes and wider value these interventions create, including stronger partnerships, innovation, employment, tourism, economic activity and a more vibrant city.

For The GoDown, this reinforces the need for the creative sector to engage more deliberately with Nairobi’s planning and budgeting processes and strengthen how it demonstrates the public value of culture.
